Outdoor Fun With Your Dog
by Jennifer Thomas on 01/24/12It's 70 degrees and sunny. You and your pup are at a loss on what to do. Here are a few ideas! Get out and play! Not only is hanging out with your dog a lot of fun, exercise is a great way to calm your dog and keep him away from destructive behaviors such as chewing and barking.
1. Go for a walk/hike. Low intensity walking is great exercise for both you and your pet. Take a few poop bags because new smells tend to encourage a few extra potty stops. Let your pup explore while you enjoy the weather. Your pup with thank you later!
2. Play some fetch. Tennis balls and frisbees are a great way to run off some of that energy. Find an open field, fenced in back yard, or invest in a 50 foot leash and play some catch! You never know, your dog might become a sporting champion.
3. Go for a swim. Dogs love swimming. For most, it's second nature. Find a local pond, beach, or even a kiddie pool and watch your pup go nuts! Some dogs might need a bit of encouragement with a toy. But after a few minutes, they will be splashing around like there is no tomorrow!
4. Find a dog park. Dog parks are an excellent way for your dog to get exercise AND work on his socialization skills! Dogs are pack animals and jump at the chance to run and play with their own kind. Find a local park, be sure your pup is comfortable, and watch him have a blast making friends! He will never want to leave.
